[[மனிதர்]]களும் கொரில்லாக்களும் [[சிம்ப்பன்சி]] போன்ற இன்னும் ஒருசில விலங்குகளும் [[முதனி]] எனப்படும் பேரினத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவை. முதனிகளில் யாவற்றினும் மிகப் பெரியது கொரில்லா தான். இது சுமார் 1.7 மீ (5 அடி 6 அங்குலம்) உயரம் இருக்கும். [[கை]] [[முட்டி]]களால் ஊன்றி நடக்கும். [[ஆண் (பால்)|ஆண்]] கொரில்லாக்கள் 150 கிலோ கிராம் (330 [[பவுண்டு]]) எடை இருக்கும். பெண் கொரில்லாக்கள் ஆண்களில் பாதி எடை இருக்கும்.

பார்ப்பதற்கு கருப்பாய் பெரிய உருவமாய் இருப்பினும், இவை [[இலை]] தழை [[பழம்]], [[கிழங்கு]] உண்ணிகள்; என்றாலும் சிறிதளவு [[பூச்சி]]களையும் உண்ணும் (உணவில் 1-2% பூச்சிகள் என்பர்); வாழ்நாள் 30-50 ஆண்டுகள்.
