== சந்திரனின் மகளாக ==
மற்றொரு கணக்கில், பத்திரை [[சந்திர தேவன்|சந்திரனின்]] மகளாகக் குறிப்பிடப்படுகிறார். இக்கதையில், உதத்தியன் என்ற முனிவரை மணந்தாள். முன்பு இவளைக் கண்டு ஆசைப்பட்ட [[வருணன்]], இவளை தந்தையின் ஆசிரமத்திலிருந்து கடத்திச் செல்கிறான். இவளைத் திரும்ப அழைத்து வரச் சென்ற அனுப்பப்பட்ட [[நாரதர்]] தோல்வியுடன் திரும்பினார். இதனால் மிகவும் கோபமடைந்த உதத்திய முனிவர், கடல் முழுவதையும் குடித்து விடுகிறார். ஆனாலும் வருணன் இவளை விடவில்லை. இதனால் வருண ஏரி வறண்டு, பெருங்கடல் மறைந்தது. மேலும் துறவி -- " [[சரசுவதி|சரஸ்வதி]], பாலைவனங்களில் மறையட்டும், பாலைவனமான இந்த நிலம் தூய்மையற்றதாக மாறட்டும்" என சாபமிட்டார். நாடு வறண்டு போன பிறகு, வருணன் பத்திரையை திரும்ப அழைத்து வந்தான். முனிவர் அவளைத் திரும்பப் பெற்றதில் மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தார். மேலும் உலகத்தையும் வருணனையும் அவர்களின் துன்பங்களிலிருந்து விடுவித்தார்." <ref>{{Cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=DH0vmD8ghdMC&q=Soma+had+a+daughter|title=Hinduism: An Alphabetical Guide}}</ref>
